Parents Guide to The Trip

Tonight at the Trip, we talk about salt. We took a look at Matthew 5:13 where Jesus said that we are the salt of the earth. We talked about 3 characteristics of salt.

1. It adds flavor to things. I passed out some saltless potato chips to the youth and let them eat them. It showed them how things without salt is bland. As Christians, we are supposed to add flavor to the world. According to John 10:10, Christians should be having the most fun.

2. Salt preserves things. We need to be saving our friends from hell. We can and are supposed to be the earth's preservers.

3. Salt has variety. There are over 14,000 different kinds of salt. God loves variety in salt and us. God has given all of us different abilities and likes. We can rejoice in our differences and use this to be a complete body of Christ. It takes all kinds of Christians to reach all kinds of lost people.

4. You have to chose to be salty. God cannot use you if you choose to make yourself unavailable. At the end of the night, I gave the youth a packet of salt to take home with them. I told them to put the packet somewhere they would be reminded daily to be salt to the world.

Questions to ask your Kids
1. How did the chips taste? (Some kids actually liked them. This is great news for healthy parents.)
2. What does it mean for a Christian to add flavor?
3. How can you be a preservative?
4. Name some different varieties of salt? What variety are you?
5. Where did you put your salt packet?

I wanna be Made

Come to the Trip to kick off our new sermon series; Made: Becoming what God wants You to Be. God wants to make us into something. The question is what? We are going to look at three analogies from the Bible. We are going to learn what it means to be salt, a sheep, and clay. Wednesday night at 6 PM in the Student Worship Center.

RSS feeds

Welcome all new parents and students to the blog. I want to take a moment to tell you about RSS feeds. One of the cool things about this blog is that it is also a RSS feed. The cool thing is that you can subscribe to this feed to let you know when a new post is made. You can go to any internet search engine and search for RSS feed readers. If you use a Microsoft software (like Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Live Mail) to check your email, you can easily subscribe to the feed. In the upper right corner click on the RSS button. It looks like the picture above. Then click on subscribe to feed. Now go back to your email and look under feeds. The posts to the blog will now show up like email. Whenever there is a new post, it will show a number in the line, just like new email.

The only disadvantage is that you cannot watch video from your email page. You will have to visit the blog on the internet site to do so. If you need any help signing up, check with your help button on the email software you use. Just type in RSS feeds. If you get desperate, you can give me a call. I just charge $50 for tech support.

Parents Guide to The Trip

Tonight at the Trip, we talked about the woman at the well found in John 4. We have talked about this passage a lot lately. Pastor David preached on it and we saw a musical drama on it too. Tonight I took a different look at it. I used it to show how Jesus witnessed to a lost person. He used 7 steps to lead this person from the darkness of sin to the freedom found only in Christ. Here are the 7 steps:

1. Do not worry about what others will think. (Verses 7-9)
2. Begin with common ground. (verses 7-8)
3. Lead the conversation to spiritual things. (verses 10-15)
4. Care enough to be straight forward. (verses 16-17)
5. Get them to acknowledge their sin. (verse 19)
6. Tell them that Jesus is the only way to salvation. (verses 25-26 and 39-42)

And the result of this leads to:
7. Genuine repentance frees us from our shame and salvation to others. (verses 28-30 and 39-42)

Here are some questions you can ask your kids about tonight:

1. Why do Jews hate Samaritans?
2. What was it like to be a woman in the 1st century?
3. Why should you tell someone about their sin?
4. What is the difference between a seeker, sold out, and a stumbler?
5. Who should we share our faith with at school?
